Beautiful Daria and Marty {eco friendly green wedding photography}

Last weekend I had the amazing opportunity to photograph the beautiful wedding of Daria and Marty. These guys are so wonderful, obviously very in love and just totally cute! It’s days like this that remind me how much I love my job!

The wedding was down at Ewingsdale (near Byron Bay) at the Byron Palms Nursery, owned by the groom’s parents. The wedding was held under the biggest, most beautiful tree I have ever seen and the ceremony was simple but stunning.

Daria and Marty, thank you for an amazing afternoon and the privelage of photographing your lovely day.

Stop Airport Expansion – No Third Runway

airplot by greenpeace

There’s only a day left before we close the deed on Airplot! Sign up now to get your piece of the plot, and help us reach 100,000 beneficial owners by April 30th. This will ensure the next government is faced with strong opposition, and can be persuaded to shelve Heathrow expansion for good. What is Airplot? It’s a piece of land slap bang in the middle of the proposed third runway site at Heathrow, now shared by over 80,000 people. We’re not going to let the runway be built and we need your help!

Why is this expansion bad? An additional runway will mean an additional 225,000 flights over London in the course of a year. This will lead to Heathrow Airport becoming the single biggest greenhouse gas emitter in the United Kingdom and will go against the British Government’s plan to reduce emissions by 80% by 2050. Also, the village of Sipson and surrounding areas will no longer exist. The community in these areas will have to relocate to make way for a gigantic concrete runway. There are already 6 airports surrounding London. We do not need any more…

The wonderful Emma Thompson has joined with Greenpeace, Alistair McGowan and Zac Goldsmith and purchased a large amount of land that is in the proposed runway area. They are all so passionate about this unneeded development as you can see below.

Earth Day Portrait Special! {eco friendly green portrait photography}

YouTube Preview Image

Our planet is facing bigger challenges than ever before. Our ancient forests are being chopped down and our oceans recklessly fished out and polluted at a breathtaking pace. Whaling, toxic pollution, dirty coal, dangerous nuclear energy and genetically engineered crops threaten the quality and even sustainability of lives around the planet. Catastrophic climate change looms as governments and industry spend time and resources in hopes of increasing their profits while avoiding the changes necessary to curb carbon emissions.

The Earth needs more people like you who care about environmental issues, more people who will use their voices to defend it – and more people who will take action to protect it.

To celebrate the amazing work that is being done by so many individuals around the world I am having a special discount!

hj imagery earth day portrait photography special offer

Earth Hour 2010 – two weeks to go!

Yes it is just two weeks until Earth Hour 2010!

YouTube Preview Image

Hj imagery is throwing its support behind Earth Hour  – an annual event coordinated by WWF-Australia to raise awareness of climate change. The campaign aims to encourage councils, households, schools, businesses and organisations to take practical everyday steps to reduce their environmental footprint.

Along with millions of others around the globe, hj imagery will ‘power down’ for one hour on Saturday March 27 at 8:30pm by turning off essential lighting and machines, and unplugging appliances at the power point.

‘The simple act of turning lights off sends a powerful message that if individuals take small steps, collectively we can make a huge difference in reducing our carbon footprint. Mindful of the 2010 Earth Hour motto, ‘Earth Hour, Every Hour’ we’ve committed to long-term goals for sustainability.

Whilst turning off lights and other electronic appliances during Earth Hour is a great first step, the idea is to make a commitment beyond the hour. By making some simple and inexpensive changes in the home or business we can encourage our community to be more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

“Earth Hour is an opportunity to demonstrate a comitment to tackling climate change,” says Greg Bourne, CEO, WWF-Australia. “Earth Hour is driven by citizens and grassroots groups thinking globally and acting locally in the community, and there’s plenty of ways for everyone to get involved.”

During Earth Hour there are number of ways to take advantage of the dark – events will run in cities, towns and municiplities throughout Australia hosted by local businesses, schools, councils and family and friends at home.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when more than 2 million people turned off their lights. Since then participants have grown progressively around the world. In 2009 numbers swelled to hundreds of millions as 4189 cities, in 88 countries as well as many of the world’s best know landmarks participated.

It’s easy to get involved:

  1. 1. Sign up to Earth Hour

Register your home, business, organisation or school to participate in Earth Hour. To register go to www.earthhour.org.au. Signing up is absolutely free and you will be provided with an Earth Hour information pack. This also helps us to track who’s in this year.

  1. 2. Measure your environmental impact on the planet

WWF is asking everyone to make one Earth Hour resolution to reduce their impact – or ‘footprint’ – on the planet on an ongoing basis. Measure yours via the footprint calculator at earthhour.org.

  1. 3. Turn off the lights!

For one hour, Saturday, 27 March 2010 at 8:30pm.

Don’t forget to alert others too… talk about it at work, to the check out assistant while shopping, friends and family, post about it on Facebook or Twitter and encourage them all to do their part!

I am still here….

Things have just been a little hectic recently. I will be back with images very soon! For now, let’s turn Facebook green.

We need your help to get Facebook.com running on 100 percent renewable energy. If you are on Facebook please join this facebook group and invite your friends.

Why Facebook? Why now? Because the company just announced plans to run its massive new data centre in Oregon (US) on dirty energy. Facebook is now the second most-visited website in the U.S., and one of the top websites in the world. It’s time that the company cleaned up their act and put their weight behind the struggle to stop climate change. Like the late, great historian Howard Zinn said — you can’t be neutral on a moving train.

How the internet is powered is an issue not just for Facebook but for the entire IT industry. The industry holds many of the keys to reaching our climate goals by innovating internet based solutions to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and increase energy efficiency. Technologies that enable smart grids, zero emissions buildings, and more efficient transport systems are central to efforts to combat climate change. IT companies should quit coal, go renewable.

We can use our facebook networks to spread the word and encourage the company to join the cause now, at this critical time in its development.
