Last minute Christmas gift ideas {green products and services}

I know that it’s almost Christmas already but there is still time to do a little bit of green shopping (I think there’s always time!). There are so many fantastic eco friendly products that I can recommend but I decided to do a list of my favourites, which can be purchased online or in some stores.

Sigg water bottle – I know there are alot of reusable bottles on the market right now but I definitely recommend Sigg. They have a variety of sizes, an amazing variety in designs and now even offer ones for holding wine and coffee! One of the things that makes me love them too is that they have a few different tops/ lids to their bottles, including a sipping top which alot of cheaper brands don’t provide. Pick one up from Biome today!

Little things sustainable living diary – Last year I bought one of their diaries and it has been just what I wanted, so of course I had to buy one for 2010 as well. The Little Things Diary 2010 contains 365 ways to be green at home and at work. With information on sustainable living, and packed with practical everyday tips and advice, The Little Things Diary 2010 shows how sense and sustainability benefit you, as well as the world you live in. It also lists a host of internet sites, reference books and brochures for further information. You can get one of these from Biome, Oxfam shop or Todae.

DVD An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore – This is the DVD that started it all off for me and I think it’s a great way to be informed about the climate change problem. Al Gore provides all the facts, in an easy to understand way utilising a little bit of humour. If you are just becoming more green, I definitely recommend this as the place to start. Available from Todae or Amazon.

DVD The End of Suburbia – This is probably the best DVD dealing with peak oil out there. The end of suburbia explores the american way of life and its prospects as the planet approaches a critical era, as global demand for fossil fuels begins to outstrip supply. World oil peak and the inevitable decline of fossil fuels are upon us now and this is discussed by leading scientists in the DVD. Available from Todae or Amazon.

We Add Up t shirts - I really love these shirts – WE ADD UP tees are made with 100 percent certified organic cotton under strict fair labor practices. They are hand printed with your individual number. They have awesome designs. What more can I say? Get one today!

We Add Up designs

Organic chocolate – there are so many different ones on the market now and you can even pick them up at the supermarket.

Rechargable battery set - Avoid non reusable batteries and buy a little pack with a charger and set of batteries.

Ecostar bags – These bags are great! The Ecostar Bag is ‘greener than a green bag’. Why? Because unlike the ‘green’ bags that are produced from petrochemicals and never biodegrade, the Ecostar Bag is made from organic jute. Jute is a biodegradable plant fibre grown on natural rainfall and free from chemicals. It is 100% compostable giving valuable nutrients back to the earth when discarded. Available at selected green stores and via email @ http://www.ecostarbags.com.au/

They are just a few of my favourite christmas gifts this year, be sure to check out Todae, Biome and Oxfam shop for lots more great ideas.

Wrapping

Wrap gifts in old maps, newspapers, Sunday comics or old sheets of  music.
Alternatively use brown paper and a colourful bow.
Kids’ artwork is a perfect wrapping for presents to proud grandparents.
Wrap presents in a new scarf, bandanna, calico bag or tea towel.
Give gifts in baskets, tins or jars, which can be re-used.
Save bows, ribbons and paper to reuse next year.
Make sure you separate your cards and wrapping paper from plastic and foil wraps before putting them in your kerbside collection bins.
