World Environment Day – this weekend!

Just wanted to let you all know that World Environment Day is this weekend and there are heaps of things to get out and see or do in South East Queensland!

1. Morningside festival

Time: Saturday 5 June from 3pm to 7pm
Location: Morningside Tennis Centre and Beelarong Community Farm
- next door to each other on the corner of Beverley and York Sts, Morningside

Please join Transition East, Beelarong Community Farm and the Morningside Tennis Centre for an afternoon of fun, food and information.

Activities include:
o Free organic sausage sizzle (including meat option)                  o Free tennis for the kids
o Farm tours                                                                                         o Cob oven cooking
o Indian cooking display                                                                   o Making your own worm ranch
o Construction of an Oil Memorial                                                  o Screening of the movie ‘In Transition 1.0’
o Low Carbon Diet program presentation

For catering purposes, please RSVP on the Brisbane Transition ning.

Public transport options: 15 minute walk (or 5 minute ride) from either Morningside or Cannon Hill railway station.

BYO chair would also be fantastic.
We’re also looking for a couple of large plastic drums to construct an Oil Memorial with – any leads please let me know.
We’ll also be wanting some unwanted oil-based memorabilia to screw to the drums – let your imagination run wild

2. The Really Really Free Market

Saturday 5 June, 10am – 4pm         – in Brisbane City Botanic Gardens

A festival of giving freely – anything from a shoulder massage to fruit & veges to haiku compositions

Everything in this market is completely free. No money, bartering, or trading.
A celebration of gift economy.
Everyone is welcome
Come along and bring items you want to give away, skills to share, ideas, friends, or just your company.

3. Logan Eco Action Festival LEAF

Logan Eco Action Festival (LEAF) is a free community festival welcoming every one of all ages to attend, and more importantly participate. This interactive and educational event is designed to stimulate awareness about the topical environmental issues we face as a community, and through education empower you, your family and your friends to make a positive change.

4. Boonah festival for World Environment Day

8. Tea and Seed Stories – Sophie Munn’s homage to the seed

Sunday 6 June     10.30am – 2.00pm             Japanese Garden: Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens

This event welcomes all who care for the critical role of the seed in the story of biodiversity – its is a day for sharing stories – seeds if you can – and for recognising what is at stake. You dont have to be a great gardener or own a patch of land to participate in this circle. There are many ways to contribute to biodiversity preservation.
We are taking bookings for this free event – 2 sessions -10.30am and 12.30 pm.
